We believe that Pride is Political. Join us and march toward feminist, anti-racist, and pro-queer & trans futures.
Pride is Political means that we remember Pride as inextricably linked to its radical roots. We understand our current task in organizing pride festivities to be one that honors our current moment and the work that our queer and trans siblings who came before us accomplished. In this tradition, we demand that SLO Pride and its surrounding festivities adopt an unapologetically feminist, anti-racist, and pro-queer/trans agenda.
This means calling out corporations for marginalizing and exploiting queer and trans people while demanding a living wage and a cease to the destruction of our planet. This means calling out the police and the terror they inflict on our communities and demanding that our queer and trans siblings of color have a space where they are not forced to be alongside their murderers. This means dismantling ICE, mass incarceration, and U.S militarism. This means demanding single-payer health care and free public higher education, and establishing a universal basic income. This means recognizing that we are on stolen land and that genocide against native people is at the core of this county’s DNA. This means taking back what has always been ours–because we do not need to ask permission, or seek a permit, or submit a day-plan to celebrate and build stronger communities.
Join us in creating the communities we want to see in the world by marching in the first ever SLO Pride March. Bring signs! Together, we will create a pride that celebrates and uplifts all of our community.
