Change the Status Quo Social Justice Leadership Conference
February 27 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Women’s March SLO co-founders Dawn Addis and Andrea Chmelik are proud to present at the 19th annual Change the Status Quo social justice conference! Their workshop “Activism and Politics – Let’s Power Up Democracy” is one of many inspirational sessions you can attend virtually and for free. Open to all!
Center for Service in Action is delighted to host the 19th Annual Change the Status Quo (CSQ) Social Justice Leadership Conference on Saturday, February 27, 2021. We are thrilled to share with you that this year’s keynote speaker is award-winning performance poet and activist Sonya Renee Taylor! A former national and international poetry slam champion and founder and radical executive officer of the digital media and education company, The Body is Not An Apology, Taylor will kick-off the day’s programming themed around “Action over Apathy.” She is an author, educator, and has shared her work around the world as well as in different settings including: prisons, mental health treatment facilities, homeless shelters, universities, and festivals. More information about Taylor can be found on her website.
The CSQ conference aims to empower participants to use the Learn by Doing spirit to challenge social norms, ask critical questions, demand solutions and make lasting social change. Through guest speakers, inspiring workshops, and engaging sessions, our hope is that students will leave the conference with a new-found sense and understanding of social justice, and how they can take ownership of their role to advance social change!
Pre-registration for the all-virtual conference is now live at serviceinaction.calpoly.edu/CSQ. Although the conference is FREE this year, registration is required for access to the keynote address and workshops.
