Preparing to Put in the Work – Intersectionality in Action
May 19 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm$75 – $120
Women’s March SLO is honored to be one of the co-hosts of this event, organized by R.A.C.E. Matters SLO County.
This is a one-day workshop offered on three dates. If you’re unable to make it on May 19th, stay tuned for location and ticket details for June 22 and June 29.
This introductory workshop serves as a precursor to the longer Putting in the Work series. Participants explore the concept of coalition work through an examination of the work of Bernice Johnson Reagon, Chimimanda Ngozi Adichie, Mary C. Waters, Robert Jensen, Tim Wise, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and other racial/social justice scholars.
Preparing to Put in the Work provides participants with a shame-free, guilt-free environment in which to consider white privilege and the extent to which they may unknowingly benefit from and participate in the oppression of people of color (POC). Most importantly, it begins the conversation on how to leverage white privilege in the pursuit of a more just and equitable community. Workshop participants must be 18 or older and registration is limited 50 participants.
We stand for leveraging our privilege to support others and offer the cost of tuition on a social justice sliding scale from $75 – $120. People who contribute at the top of the sliding scale support our ability to offer scholarship spaces at a cost below the bottom of the sliding scale to those who would otherwise be unable to participate. This allows us to scale the price so that everyone is included. We are only able to offer scholarship spaces once we have a certain number of people contributing at or near the top of the scale. If cost is a barrier for your participation, please see our scholarship application here: https://www.wildhearthealingarts.com/the-work/
