IS THIS A MARCH OR PROTEST? The Women’s March in San Luis Obispo is a Pro Peace, Pro Inclusivity march. We respectfully ask that all “anti” or “protest” sentiments are NOT shared at this march. This does not mean that we don’t acknowledge these feelings and points of view, but this is not the focus of this particular march.
This event is a peaceful march, and we would appreciate all activities to reflect the kind nature of our gathering.
I’M NOT A WOMAN, AM I INVITED? Yes, the Women’s March in San Luis Obispo is for any person, regardless of gender or gender identity, who believes women’s rights are human rights.
IS THIS MARCH INCLUSIVE FOR WOMEN OF COLOR? The Women’s March San Luis Obispo is an evolving effort that welcomes all women. If you have organizational ideas to promote inclusivity or expand our reach to women of color, we welcome your voice. Our email is below.
WILL THE MARCH BE ACCESSIBLE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES? The Women’s March in San Luis Obispo is committed to ensuring that the convening is accessible to people with disabilities. The march will have a wheel chair/mobility device accessible route of under 1 mile. We are designating a place in Mitchell Park for people who are not walking in the march but want to participate. Thanks to your financial support, we are able to provide limited seating. We ask that attendees reserve the chairs for people with physical disabilities and others who are unable to stand/walk in the march. First come, first serve!
We are working with volunteers to ensure there are qualified ASL interpreters, and are designating a space close to the gazebo for people to access ASL interpreters.
Mitchell Park has accessible bathrooms. Additionally, three portable toilets, one ADA, all with hand sanitizers, have been ordered from Harvey’s Honey Huts.
WHAT ABOUT SAFETY? We are working with the City of SLO and the SLO safety service to take proper safety measures.
SAFETY GUIDELINES: This is a peaceful march/rally. All attendees must understand that your actions can affect the safety of your fellow attendees. You can help make this a safe and successful day by following these guidelines. If you feel you cannot follow these guidelines, please choose a different event to attend.
We will make a safe space for all kinds of people. We will use no violence (physical or verbal) towards any person. We will not destroy or damage property. We will promote a tone of respect, honesty, transparency, and accountability in our actions. We will not carry anything that can be construed as a weapon, nor possess (or consume) any alcohol or drugs. We are non-partisan, and will use the Women’s March to express our support for Women’s and Human Rights in our communities, our country, and world-wide, rather than to criticize politicians or political parties. We will all hold each other accountable to respecting these agreements.
WHAT ABOUT PARKING? With over 3,000 attendees registered already, we recommend that you arrive early, carpool, or bike if possible. We offer free bike valet service with Bike SLO County. The service will be available between 9:45am and 1:30pm. If you are looking for a ride or would like to offer one, our event is registered on Ridevu.com.

WHY IS THERE NO MENTION OF PRESIDENT-ELECT DONALD TRUMP IN YOUR MISSION STATEMENT? This march is an affirmative, peaceful gathering, open and safe for women, their allies, and their children. That insight originates from the National March and has been widely accepted by over 150 marches taking place on the same day across the country and the world. We want this to be an affirmative march FOR all women’s rights, including all the hopes mentioned in our mission statement. While these issues are being threatened by the President-Elect, we do not want a negative connotation to the march. This march is not a protest; it is a rally in solidarity with marchers across our nation and world. It is about placing aside our differences, joining together, and raising our voices in strength and pride. It is about us – the women and their supporters who will gather on January 21st – not about one man.
Donations will be used to pay for permitting and other fees associated with the march. The organizers do NOT receive any funds. Neither do marchers or our network of organizational support. Both monetary donations, and volunteers are critical to the success of this march.
