We will talk about the responsibilities of a school board, navigating challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, purpose of social-emotional learning curriculum, recall efforts, running for office, and how to support elected officials who face threats and harassment.
About Colleen Martin
Colleen Martin is a longtime citizen advocate in South County. Prior to being elected to the Lucia Mar Unified School District Board of Trustees 2006, she participated in the major update of the City of Arroyo Grande General Plan, was a Park & Recreation commissioner, volunteered with the school district on school bond campaigns and as a Camp Fire leader for thirteen years.
Those who know Colleen well know she never shies away from doing her homework on an issue, or for speaking out for what is right. She is a tireless advocate for equity and in our schools. On the national level she lobbies for women’s right to choose, the equal rights amendment and the March for our Lives gun control movement.
Colleen went back to college when her first born did and graduated from CSU Monterey Bay at 49 years old. As the College & Career Center specialist at SLO High School, she interfaces with young people every day, which she says keeps her young! Married with two children, she and her husband Glenn have called Arroyo Grande home since 1986.
