RaiseUp SLO is a local group led by women of color, working to create an inclusive and supportive environment for children of color through community building, education and advocacy. They are committed to helping parents raise race-conscious kids. On Wednesday, we will discuss why it’s important to talk to kids about race and racism from a very young age, why colorblind parenting doesn’t prevent racism, and what is the role of parents, schools and organizations in helping children of all ages develop positive attitudes about race and diversity. About Julie Lynem
Julie Lynem, a former newspaper reporter and editor and current lecturer at Cal Poly, is the leader of RaiseUp SLO. RaiseUp SLO is a local organization dedicated to building community among families of color and is committed to helping parents raise race-conscious kids. Julie is also a steering committee member for R.A.C.E. Matters SLO County. She is the mother of a 13-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter.
