Join us for the 21st episode of Answering the Call with Vanessa Parsons! We will talk about her advocacy for unheard and marginalized students, her experience in training teachers and administrators in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy, as well as her role on SLCUSD’s Equity Leadership Team. We will also discuss her participation on the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Task Force for the City of SLO, and how we can power up democracy by achieving true representation.
About Vanessa Parsons
Vanessa Parsons is an EL Specialist at Hawthorne Elementary in San Luis Obispo, CA and has been teaching for 10+ years. She currently serves as the EL Specialist, and is a second generation Filipina who was born and raised in San Diego, CA. She went to SDSU for her undergrad and teaching credential, and received her Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Social Justice in 2018 at CSU Fullerton. Vanessa has trained SLCUSD teachers and administrators in Culturally Responsive Pedagogy districtwide. Most recently, she has participated as a member of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force for City of SLO. She is also a member of SLCUSD’s Equity Leadership Team. She is married, with two boys, and in her spare time loves to listen to music, travel and bargain shop. Vanessa has a love for learning and hopes to be a resource for others while continuing to be an advocate for unheard and marginalized students.
